The Cranford Veterans of Foreign Wars in partnership with the Cranford 86, the Greenthumb Garden Club and the Cranford Township Committee are proud to announce the Cranford Memorial Park Renovation Project.

Cranford Memorial Park, located at 350 Springfield Ave, is need of updating and beautification. The current version of Memorial Park was originally created over 70 years ago. And while monuments have been added to the park they have been added by individual groups with no overall plan. The Lest We Forget Monument, which has inscribed on the dates of conflicts in which the United States, and citizens of Cranford, have fought in ends with the Vietnam war. A township committee consisting of members of the Cranford VFW, Cranford 86, Greenthumb garden club and Cranford Town Commissioners has been established to enact these necessary updates and changes to ensure that Memorial Park truly honors those who served in our nations conflicts and especially honors and remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our county.

The plans include:

  • Rectifying errors and omissions on the tablets of names on the three main monuments
  • Install individual banners or plaques for each member of the Cranford 86 with a QR code to their story
  • Installing a monument to honor Father Waters, one of only 9 Chaplains in US history to be awarded the Medal of Honor
  • Install new monuments for conflicts including the Persian Gulf War, the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the War on Terror
  • Relocation of monuments in the park to provide a better layout for a more immersive experience
  • Relining of the brick walkways in the park with bricks inscribed to honor the Cranford 86, and any other Veteran from Cranford or with family in Cranford
  • Relocation of the Main US flag pole and installation of individual branch of service flags
